Shoreline erosion 2012

Picture Added: 19:34 06 October 2015
The high seas and storms of December 2012 eroded the shoreline revealing a medieval drystone wall and layers of shell midden, ash and soil, within which there was fish bone, animal bone, rusted iron rivets and broken medieval and more recent pottery.

It was evidence of an earlier settlement and prompted the setting up of the Cromarty Medieval Burgh Community Archaeology Project, which has dug each summer since 2013 to find out more about the lives and work of the people in this part of the Burgh over more than six centuries.
